4 Reasons why you might consider wearing a black wedding dress.
This one is for you edgy brides out there - are you going to wear black on your wedding day?
A black wedding dress is perfect for bold brides who want to make a statement. They are certainly not for everyone and I know that many brides may feel that it goes too far against tradition. But for those brides that want to express their individuality and are not afarid of doing something different black wedding dresses can look awesome.
Two of my favourite weddings from last year featured brides wearing a black wedding dress and both looked absolutely amazing.
Naomi, who married Stuart in August at The City Rooms in Leicester looked amazing and with an unbelievably long black train Naomi made the most dramatic of entrances. Naomi and Stuart would certainly both fit into the "alternative" wedding category with multiple tattoos and piercings and the most unconventional wedding band I have ever heard Smoke Under Water. Exactly the kind of wedding I love to shoot, not an Ed Sheeran song to be heard all day - phew.

My second super cool bride to wear a black wedding dress was Anne who married Ben at Belton Woods Hotel near Grantham in November https://www.beltonwoods.co.uk/weddings-special-occasions/weddings/.
Anne and Ben had a very alternative feel to their wedding and their love and passion for gaming certainly came across with the theme and styling of their wedding day - very cool.
So lets look at why you can think about wearing black on your wedding day.
Reason One - You do you.
The first reason to consider wearing a black wedding dress for your wedding is because it’s just another way to break tradition and do something that feels totally YOU on your wedding day. For so long, our society has told brides what to do for their wedding, but do have to have all bridesmaids? How about bridesmen? Speeches are done by groom, best man and father of the bride - do you want to do a speech, get the heck up there. One of the best decisions you will make when planing your wedding is have the wedding that you want, not what tradition, blogs or society tells you. Are you not a fan of cake? Get donuts instead! Do you feel more yourself wearing black? Get a gorgeous black wedding dress!
Reason Two - It photographs beautifully.
Black wedding dresses look absolutely amazing in photos, especially if I can shoot against Gothic style architecture as I did with Naomi. I honestly can’t think of a wedding destination where a black dress wouldn’t look good, except maybe inside of a cave. Also, it’s pretty universally known that the colour black is extremely flattering for pretty much all skin toes, hair colours, and body types.
Reason Three - Versatility.
Black dresses are often considered timeless and versatile. They can be worn for various formal occasions beyond the wedding day, providing the bride with a dress she can use for other events throughout her life.
Reason Four - Symbolism and Meaning.
Black can be associated with various meanings, such as sophistication, elegance, and mystery. Some brides may choose black to symbolise a departure from tradition, the beginning of a new chapter, or a more unconventional approach to marriage. Some brides are influenced by a Gothic or Vintage culture making a black wedding dress perfect for this aesthetic.
