I would love to give you an insight into how I photograph weddings and over the next few blog posts I will explain my approach and how I produce images that have style, emotion and drama from every wedding.

Obviously the first port of call for the vast majority of my weddings is bridal preparation. This is an opportunity for me to set the tone for the day and I always start with detail shots of the bouquet, dress and shoes.

 

 

Portraits.

Bridal preparation will generally take place in one of two locations, either the bridal suite at the venue or the brides home. I do prefer shooting prep at the venue as there is generally a bit more space to work with here, but it really does not matter too much as I will always find a great spot to produce beautiful bridal portraiture. My job as a photographer is to find the light and Im pretty good at this, I may have to move a sofa or an armchair but its worth disrupting a living room for a short while to get the winning shot.

I never shoot brides when the are having makeup applied, what I want to shoot is a bride when she is ready to go and looking fantastic. Another shot I do love is the bridal party before they have their dresses on, especially if they have the "bride squad" dressing gowns, always a winning shot.

First Look.

I never lose sight of the fact that what I am recording and documenting is one of the most important and significant days in a woman's life and one of the greatest moments for me to capture is when a father sees his daughter for the first time in her wedding dress. I shoot this image at nearly all my weddings and I just love the reactions and emotions that occur during this very special moment.

 

This shot also really works with bridal party and again I love the reactions of bridesmaids when the first get to see their best friend ready to marry the man of her dreams.

 

 

Phew once I have these shots in the bag its off to meet the groom, its not all about the bride you know.
