Shona and Mikes wedding at Kelham House.
I have not shot a wedding at https://kelhamhouse.co.uk/ near Newark for a while now, I think I had forgotten how much I love shooting at this beautiful venue. This Edwardian manor house set in gorgeous gardens with lovely woodland was the perfect setting for Mike and Shona's recent wedding in April.
Mike and Shona only booked me for their wedding a few months ago and apart from a brief zoom call to discuss the details of the day I had not really got to know them very well so I really did not know what to expect from this wedding. However, when Mike arrived by helicopter, well how else do grooms arrive to their wedding?, I knew it was going to be a cracking day.
I asked Mike and Shona what they where hoping the vibe and style of their wedding would be on the day.
"The vibe we hoped for with our wedding was elegance and class. We took inspiration from downtown abbey with our ceremony and wedding breakfast music with a remix of todays hits in a string quartet setting. For style we went with a green and gold colour theme as we thought this stood out behind the traditional white colour scheme of a wedding really well and made the decor really pop."
Its always nice to know what a bride and groom look forward to most on the day during the planning stage, so first up Shona.
"The main thing I was looking forward to was that one moment where I'm standing at the top of the isle and Mikey turns around to see me for the first time. It was honestly the most magical moment in my life, the only way I can describe it is everything around me went and quiet and the only thing I could see was Mikey. It was a moment that will forever be imprinted in my heart."
Let's hear what Mike was looking forward to then.
"For me I was looking forward too and also incredibly anxious about seeing Shona at the top of the aisle. I knew she would look breathtaking and that was the moment the whole day truly hit home for me. Safe to say I was emotional!"
I just love these ceremony photos and its what I love most about working as a wedding photographer, being in such a position to capture the beauty and emotion of a couple prior to and during the ceremony, just fantastic images.
It is important to me as a wedding photographer to know what is a priority to a bride and groom in terms of photography on their wedding day. This is what Mike and Shona had to say:
"When searching for a photographer before the wedding we were really keen to find a photographer that really made their pictures speak. We saw a lot of different styles before coming across Paul and his pictures really caught our eye. He stood out in a crowd of potential photographers and we knew he truly was an artist. He did not disappoint!"
Wow nice one Mike & Shona, thanks for those amazing words. I have to say that this wedding ticked all the right boxes for me, and I am super happy with the images I produced for you both. Certainly a portfolio wedding for me.
I love shooting images such as these. Many venues have outdoor pagodas that I can light like this, backlit and producing a dynamic silhouette image.
My famous cigar shot, a very technical shot to produce but always looks super cool.
Finished off with sparklers, again a technical shot to produce but they do look great.
