Micro Wedding Packages: What They Are And Why I Love Photographing Them.

As a wedding photographer in Lincoln I love shooting micro weddings, and there is not much more I love than a midweek Tuesday or Wednesday wedding at Lincoln Registry Office.

Micro weddings involve a maximum of 20 guests and since the good old days of Covid when weddings could only take place with minimum numbers of guests they are becoming increasingly popular. They are perfect for those planning a wedding on a budget and with so many lovely restaurants in the Bailgate area of Lincoln there is plenty of choice for a gorgeous meal after the ceremony. I have recently introduced an hourly rate for my wedding photography and this option is designed specifically for micro weddings and those not needing a full day photography. I am more than happy to shoot for 2-3 hours which is plenty of time to produce a beautiful set of photographs from small scale weddings.

Why Micro Weddings Are Growing In Popularity?

Micro weddings have taken off because couples are rethinking what a wedding should look like. Instead of planning a huge day with layers of logistics, they are choosing celebrations that feel personal, relaxed, and reflective of who they are as a couple. There is a noticeable shift toward experiences over production, and micro weddings make room for exactly that. Fewer guests and fewer moving parts mean couples can actually enjoy their day rather than manage it. There is space to breathe, chat, soak in the moments, and be present with the people who matter most. Many brides tell me the slower pace is one of the best parts of choosing a smaller celebration.

There is also the important matter of costs. The average cost of a full days wedding is over £24,000 and a micro wedding will be a fraction of this figure. Removing the need for a massive guest list and providing a meal for 60-80 friends and family is going to significantly reduce the wedding budget.

Keeping the guest list small ensures that those closest to you will be there for you and you will be able to spend quality time with them.

Micro weddings around Lincoln Cathedral.

I am lucky enough to live very close to Lincoln Cathedral and the majority of my micro wedding stake place at venues nearby such as Charlotte House, The Assembly Rooms, The Lincoln Hotel and The White Hart Hotel. All of these venues are a short walk from the beautiful Cathedral.

Lincoln Cathedral is one of those places that feels special the moment you walk up to it. For micro weddings, it offers something couples often want but struggle to find. A sense of history, a beautiful backdrop, and a calm atmosphere that suits a smaller celebration perfectly. Because the area surrounding the cathedral is compact and full of character, it works incredibly well for intimate photography.

The variety of locations around the cathedral means we can create portraits that feel timeless without needing to travel far. The stone arches, quiet pathways, and views over the city give you a mix of settings without breaking the flow of the day. Couples appreciate that they do not have to move between multiple spots or build a complicated schedule to get meaningful images.

All of this can easily be accomplished with 2-3 hours photography and my hourly rate is specifically designed to accommodate these kinds of weddings.
